Kid Directions

1. Timberville is a town that formed during the Civil War. If you were standing on this bridge a hundred years ago, you wouldn’t be able to see the river under you because this bridge used to be covered. And during the Civil War, this river, the Shenandoah River, was how the soldiers in Timberville got most of their supplies.
2. Do you want to know how the other way they got their supplies? Walk up Main Street to the train tracks. These train tracks are the main reason Timberville grew into a town.
3. Now, let’s see if you can do two things at once. Try to skip, while you look for a silver house that says TIMBERVILLE.
4. This is the “Otto Zigler House”. It was part of a fort in Timberville. Next, keep on your journey down the street until you find the Plains District Memorial Museum (open Thurs-Sun 1 to 4 p.m.).
5. That whole museum is for Civil War artifacts in this area. Now, pretend you’re a Civil War horse and gallop down Rockingham Street. There should be bunnies to the right; stop and look at them!
6. Now stop at the corner of Rockingham Street and Hollar Circle. Start at the pole next to you, and run or race past all 6 poles until you’re near the river.
7. Travel past the fort with the picnic tables and the BBQ pit. There should be a little set of stairs on a hill. Find them and run to the very top stair!
8. What’s 8 divided by two? Step down that many stairs and look underneath to find your box!

1.Start out going WEST on W OLD CROSS RD/US-211 toward GEORGE R COLLINS DR. Continue to follow W OLD CROSS RD.

Adult directions

1. Start at Timberville Post Office on South MainStreet.
2. There used to be a covered bridge constructed in 1884.
The bridge, since 1938 is no longer covered, but it’s still there. Find it.
3. When you find the bridge, there should be a plaque about the covered bridge that used to be there. Once your’e at the plaque there’s a gas station called Godfather’s Known for their famous pizza. Tina’s restaurant has their famous pancakes.
4. Then head for the train tracks. Timberville grew because of these tracks running through it. Also on the corner of North Main Street and Garret Circle is th Ziggler house.
5. Stop at the corner of Church St. and Main St: can you figure why it’s called Church St.?
6. Find the District Memorial Museum.
7. Turn left on Rockingham St. Keep Going to Hollar Circle.
8. Find tho old steps and sit down and take a break. OH WOW YOUR’E SITTING ON THE LETTERBOX. CHECK ALL THE STAIRS.
