Malus sylvestris, or the wild crab apple, is native to Scotland. Read about it here:

Find your way to Nicasio Reservoir. I came from Petaluma. Stay on Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Road after you pass the intersection of Nicasio Valley Rd and travel .8 miles to a small pull out where a trail begins. At this writing there was a blue hard times port-a-potty which I was neither brave nor desperate enough to investigate. Take the little trail and veer off to the right over a woodsy land bridge to an “island.” In February the land bridge was easy to cross; in mid-May you almost need, as another letterboxer noted, a machete since the vegetation is so lush.

So anyway head up past the large rock to the major mound of vegetation at the top of the island. Coming around from what one might consider the “back” side of the mound walk up its south side on your left and you will soon see a cave formed by the vegetation (bay trees and wild cucumber) and rockery. Enter if you dare. Go in as far as you can to the right. At ground level reach in and remove the rocks in the crevice to find Malus sylvestris. Please rehide carefully. This looks like a place kids might like.

Tick check in spring!!
