The Blackstone Historical Museum is open every Thursday from 12 - 4 and the first and third Saturday of the month from 10 - 4. Admission is free!

Enter the museum through the front door, facing Main Street. Turn to your right and enter the kitchen; this room focuses on farms, farming and home life. Take note of the beautiful cast-iron stove on your left. Before you leave this room, don't forget to take a peek of the photograph from the 4th of July bonfire in 1940 - wow!

Continue through the kitchen, into the small area devoted to the history of local churches, fire and police departments and local sports. Who knew that a MLB American League umpire came from Blackstone?

Walk through the doorway, keeping the telephone on your left, and into the back parlor, dedicated to schooling. Check out that cheerleader's uniform from the 1940s and various souvenirs from the old Blackstone High School. Go Blue Devils!

Continue into the front parlor, past a marvelous pump organ on your right. There is a vast collection of photo albums on your left that contains photos, articles and documents on local farms, citizens, buildings, celebrations and more.

Exit the parlor and head up the stairs to the second floor. Once at the top, turn right into the room marked "Textiles" to admire some lovely wedding and christening gowns, in addition to an 1800's home weaving loom. When finished, exit the room and turn left, walking down the short hall past a display about the Boy Scouts on your right. Turn right into a room marked "Industry". Here you'll find information about local mills, businesses and how the various townsfolk made a living. Stop and peruse the fascinating display about the gorge, canal and railroad. Did you know Blackstone had its own railroad depot and street trolleys?

Exit the room and walk straight across the hall into the "Veterans" room. There are many touching pieces of memorabilia here including military uniforms, patches, dog tags, photos and more. Here, each and every war veteran from Blackstone is documented. Take a moment to pay your respects to those who have given their lives fighting for our country. Then walk to the back corner of the room, where there is a small table with a lamp, a canteen and some discharge papers. To the left of the table behind some WWII artifacts on loan from SSgt. Tom Dunayeski you'll find your prize. What year was Blackstone incorporated as a town? Now you know!
