I’m including two sets of directions one for those who enjoy kayaking &/or canoeing as much as we do & one for those who want to access the box by car. Long Pond was one of our first kayaking trips.

KAYAKING DIRECTIONS:
Difficulty: a 3 mile round trip, over easily navigated flat water. Take your time & enjoy the scenery & wildlife.
You will find the Long Pond boat launch on Rt. 20 in the west end of Sturbridge, directly across the street from the Streeter Pond Recreation Area sign.

After putting in head north away from Rt.20. Eventually you will come to a bridge. We had no trouble going under the bridge in the late summer*. After going under the bridge keep the island to your right & head left around the peninsula. After rounding the peninsula keep a look out on your left for a pull out spot. It is on a slight incline. Pull out & head up the incline to a parking lot & follow box clues below.

* If the water is too high to go under the bridge you can find a spot to take out to your left just before the bridge. Now head across the street to the parking area for Champeaux Rd. fishing area & follow box clues.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
Take Champeaux Rd. off of Brookfield Rd. in Sturbridge. Go through the yellow gate & across the bridge. The Champeaux Rd. Fishing area is on your right, park here.

BOX CLUES:
Behind the boulders is a path that heads out to the tip of the peninsula follow it up the very short steep hill. We saw lots of Lady Slippers when planting the box. As you walk along look to your right for 4 tree trunks close together. From here walk 12 steps & to your right should be 5 trunks 2 of which are embracing. Nestled in these trunks is what you seek. Please hide well & cover with debris this can be a popular party area.

Enjoy the area besides the Lady Slippers we’ve seen Heron, ducks & lots of turtles. I saw the biggest snapping turtle I’ve ever seen while kayaking the pond.

HAPPY LETTERBOXING!
