Point Arena and Gualala are small villages on the rocky, northern coast of California. Travel north from San Francisco on Highway 101 to Petaluma then west to Bodega Bay. Then travel on Highway One to Gualala. The Gualala River marks the beginning of Mendocino County. Watch the mile markers as you head north from Gualala. Look for the 11.4 mile marker as you cross a small bridge over Schooner Gulch. Park facing south. Watch for oncoming traffic. You will be about five miles south of Point Arena.
The letterbox is on the trail to Schooner Gulch Beach. Find the two yellow posts leading to the trail. Count between 90 and 100 paces. On your left will be a redwood circle with four redwood trees. You have to climb up a small slope. The letterbox is in the middle of this circle of trees under a white rock and fallen redwood needles.
