Please Note: The stamps in this series are a little on the large side. Dilbert measures 4”/2 ½”. Dogbert is 3 ½” by 2 ½”. Catbert stands at 2 ½ “ by 3 ¼ “. And little Ratbert is 3 1/2 “ by 2”. If your logbook isn’t big enough for them, you might want to bring a spare piece of paper to tape in there after you stamp it.

The boxes are located in King Phillips Stockade. You can get to this small park on Rt. 5 in Springfield, directly across from the Rt. 5 entrance to Forest Park (That’s where the big Indian head statue is.)

Drive in and bear to the right. You’ll start to see parking areas right away. Continue to follow the road past the statue of King Phillip to your right, and then past the lower pavilion to your left. You can park in a space just past that pavilion.

Once you get out of the car, turn and look up the hill. You’ll see two raised stone walls near the top. There’s a second Pavilion just beyond it (Upper Pavilion)

Head up to these walls, and walk around to the far side. You’ll see a set of stairs that will lead you to the platform that the walls hold up. At the stairs, have a look to the left hand side of the railing. There are several large boulders there. Hidden in the space between the three boulders nearest the rail is poor Dilbert. He’s got a medium sized stone hiding him from view you’ll need to move. You can imagine he’s not very happy about being away from his computer, but at least the pointy haired boss is nowhere to be found. When you put him back, make sure to replace the stone. It’s the closest thing to a cubicle ceiling the poor man has!

From the stairs, turn toward the upper pavilion and follow the path to the left so that the Pavilion stays to your right. As you walk, look to your left and you’ll see a stump that stands about 3 feet high, in a small flow of water. Make your way to the stump. If you look toward the right (you’ll see a drainage pipe coming from the land) you’ll also see a tree with a large hollow space in the bottom of the trunk. This is where Dogbert had decided to take it easy. Nothing fazes him, but make sure you cover him well with leaves once you’ve had your visit. After all, he’s going to rule the world one day, no sense getting on his bad side.

Once Dogbert is back in his place, return to the path with the pavilion still on your right and follow it forward. Take the right fork, and then take the next right fork after that. You’ll see right ahead is a hill with many picnic tables on it. Leave the path and head up the hill. At the crest you’ll look to the right where there is a large grouping of tall bushes. You’ll notice one tree that’s growing there with its back just inside the branches of the bush. Beware, for here is the lair of Catbert, the head of human resources. If you check just behind this tree, under the bush branches, you’ll find him- maybe toying with some poor intern. He’s made a lair of sticks to hide under until he’s ready to strike with synergy! When you return him to his place, leave his sticks to shelter him from prying eyes or he might downsize you!

Return now to the paved path, and turn left. The bathrooms with the green roof should be behind you and to your right. You’ll follow the path till it comes to some wooden poles that mark its end. Cross the road here, and go into the woods on a little dirt path. Keep going straight until you notice on your right a fallen tree with a stump that stands about 2 ½ feet high. Go to the stump, and you’ll see the tree trunk is still touching. Follow this trunk to the top of the tree which forms a Y. Poor little timid Ratbert is waiting there for you, tucked into the crook of the Y under some leaves and branches. If you ask nicely he might do his Dogbert day dance for you. Make sure to replace his covers before you go. Otherwise Dogbert might find him, and make him get coffee and donuts.
