I’m including two sets of directions one for those who enjoy kayaking &/or canoeing as much as we do & one for those who want to access the box by car.

The last time I was on the Assabet River was over twenty years ago. We canoed this same section with our boys then 2 & 4 years old. Yesterday I enjoyed it again in kayaks with my niece. This box will commemorate our great day together!

KAYAKING DIRECTIONS:

Difficulty: a 5 mile one way trip with possibly some very shallow spots in the hot summer months. We left a take out vehicle behind the fire station at 1 Washington St. Hudson,MA. We started our trip at the put in on Robin Hill Rd. Marlboro, MA (Check out the OARS Assabet River Pocket Guide at http://www.oars3rivers.org/river/recreation for a map of the river). The scenery is very diverse & we saw heron, turtles, cows, ducks & something swimming in the water.

After paddling down stream under Rt. 290 you might want to look for a pull out on your left & look for the Assabet River Canoeing box. Continue under Rt. 495 & past Hudson High School & the Elks club both on your right. Go under the bridge watched over by the king of the jungle, Wood Park is on your right after the playground & music shell is a small spot for taking out. A short path leads to the parking lot. Now follow the box clues. From here you are almost at the take out.

Of course you can always put in at the fire station & find the take out at Wood Park.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Find the parking lot for Wood Park on Park St. in Hudson. Go to the end of the parking lot & find the little path down to the river. Follow box clues.

BOX CLUES:

Once in the parking lot stand were the stone wall starts after the break. With your back to the river count 6 steps & look under the long stone. I’m sure this can be a very busy spot so please use discretion when retrieving & hiding the box.

HAPPY LETTERBOXING!
