This is a kayaking letterbox. If you are very clever and have a map, you can probably figure out how to walk it. The first 4 boxes are medicine containers. The last box has the final stamp and log book. We anticipate it will take you about 2 hours. We’d love to know how long it takes the first finders.

Park at the boat launch on Bassett Bridge Road. Launch your kayak and paddle across the lake towards the Fenton River. Just to the right of the entrance to the river (looks like two nostrils) you’ll see a concrete bridge. Beach to the right of the bridge. Walk across the paved Park Road to the trail at 2 o’clock. Go up a short steep incline over tree roots. At the V, go left 15 paces. The Kayak box is behind the enormous pine tree under a rock.

Paddle through the “nostrils” up the Fenton River. Pass tree down in the water on the right. When river turns to the right, beach kayak on the left across from a stump sticking up on the right. Go up a short hill to a parking area. Go across the area to a dirt road that seems to head to a stone quarry? Walk 14 paces on the dirt road. The Paddle box is in the crotch of a 3 sister tree to the right of the road.

Return through the nostrils to the lake. Paddle along the left hand side of the lake. Look for a rock with two white dots followed a lone fence post. Soon there will be several small sandy areas to beach the kayak on the left. Walk up to and turn right on the paved Park Road. Walk until trees are on your right shoulder instead of the water. Turn on the first trail to the right. Climb over a rock pile. The PFD box is behind the three sister tree on the left under rocks.

Continue kayaking around the lake keeping the trees on your left. Travel past the entrance to the Mount Hope River. We wanted to put a letterbox there, but the river quickly became to shallow. Continue paddling for awhile. Beach at a sandy area with a large dead fallen tree on the left. Walk up to the yellow trail (tree at the T has a yellow blaze). Take a left on the yellow trail. Walk about 30 paces. On the right is a two sister tree with green moss on the trunks. About 35 feet into the woods beyond is a large pine tree with a stump to the left. The Sunglasses box is in the stump covered with bark.

Head back to the tree marking the beach. You’ll see a double blaze on this side of the trunk. Continue straight ahead. Walk over a downed tree and then pass a “porcupine” on the right. Soon the trail bears left with a 6’ stump on the right. At the V go left. At the next pine tree with a yellow blaze, stop and turn so your back faces the tree. Look up to the large pine at the top of the hill about 60 feet in. Ten feet beyond the pine to the left is a large stump. The logbook and final stamp (sunscreen) are very well hidden between the roots covered by pine needles.

We hope there are a lot of kayakers out there who will do our letterbox.
