At the intersection of Longford Road and Dial Drive, there is a city owned piece of land that we like to call 'The Field'. There a trails in the woods, butterflys flying around, rabbits hopping, and if you're lucky enough, you'll see a deer or two come out for a bite to eat. We used to see them in packs, but not nearly as often these days. It's sad.
For this hike, I would advise bug spray and tennis shoes. The mosquitoes can be pretty fierce back here and the grass can also get quite long and itchy for sandals. Just a warning. The field is a hop, skip, and a jump just west of the intersection. You'll see two small red poles you can park your car next to.

Box #1 Catch Me If You Can
For this box, you'll need to cross the entire length of the field to where there is the smallest of wooden shelters. It's about 5 house lengths down. Once at the shelter, you'll see a trail just to the right of it, leading down into the woods. Follow this trail to the 'dirt hills'. This is where the teenagers hang out and jump the hills on their bikes. At the bottom of the first hill, you'll go right and loop around past the 'mud hole'. Up ahead you'll see a few hills in a row and a tree that has fallen across the path. Do not take that path. There is one just to the right that you will take. The first giant tree you come to on the left has many roots growing out of the ground at the base of it. Look in the hollowed out area of this tree and you'll find what you search for.

Box #2 "Peaceful Prancers"
Continue on this trail. When you come to a fork in the road, go right. You will follow this path for a bit. If it has been raining a lot, you will begin to hear water running as you follow the path. If it has been dry, just continue on the path until you come to a small clearing. Please watch small children here. There is a drop off leading to the creek. Standing on the cliff, you can see the creek below. You can also see a giant rock directly below you. As you make your way down to the creek, when you pass by this rock, look around it. You might find something here. Please recover well with smaller rocks.

Box #3 "Bandit"

This box is in memory of Bandit. My daughter found this cat back in the field one day and he sort of made his way into our home. We were unable to keep him, but fortunately, we found him a home within 2 months. My children became attached to this cat and think of him often. We hope he's enjoying his new home.
Continue following along the creek until you can only go right or left. You will need to cross the creek here and pick the trail back up on the right side. Keep following the path until you come to a fallen tree in the path. This is also a dangerous area for small kids. There is an open water main at one end of this tree. I have my kids go under the tree instead. Once past the tree, you'll need to go around the green DP&L box and continue on. Travel uphill until you come to a fork in the road. Turn right. Ahead, there is another fallen tree on the path. Follow the tree to the stump. On either side of the stump, there is a tree with many little branches shooting up from the bottom. You will find our last box in the base of the left one. Please recover this one well with sticks.

Continue on the path until you come to a clearing. The path will take you to the right and through a break in the trees. You are now back where you began and should be able to see your car from here. We hope you enjoyed your search in our little neck of the woods.
