This is our very first plant. This letterbox will take you through some steep and rocky trails and will take you approximately 1.5 hrs to the 2nd box. So make sure you wear your hiking boots and take plenty of water. We do not recommend this box for small children.

This letterbox is located in beautiful Clarks Valley near the Dehart Dam. On SR 325 you will need to find mile markers 390 and 400. There is a pull off across from the tree that has the #25 painted on it. This is where you will start your journey.

The blue trail begins at the road. Take the trail down to the creek. Look to your left and you will see a tree that will take you across the creek. Once across the creek look over to the right and you will see the trail again. After walking for a few minutes the trail will split, stay to the left on the blue trail. Once you have walked on the blue trail after crossing the creek for approx 10 minutes you will come across a double trunk tree on the left of the trail that really leans up the trail. Stand at the base of that tree and look across the trail and you will see a tree with a knob on it (it kind of looks like a chicken bone). Behind that tree you will find a SPOR. This is where you will find your first box. This box was planted because this is one of the first areas that was probed for coal.

Continue on the blue trail to the top of the mountain. This will be very rocky and steep at times so be careful. Once at the top continue down the other side of the mountain on the blue trail for approx 100 yards. You will come across a tree with a double blue marker on it with a sinkhole behind it. There will be another trail to the right of that tree. Take the trail to the right and continue on until you come to the “General”. You will know it when you see it. This was used in the 1800’s and by looking around you will see some of its work. If you walk up behind the “General” there is a fire pit and a makeshift bench. Sit down and take a rest you deserve it.

While sitting on the bench facing the “General” turn your head to the left and look behind you. You will see two large trees. The farthest one has a SPOR at the base hiding a hole in the tree. There you will find what you seek.

On your journey back to your starting place we suggest you take one more small journey since you came this far. Take the blue trail back up the mountain. At the top of the mountain you will cross the yellow trail. Take the yellow trail to the east (or the right) and walk about 100 yards. You will come to a place known as “The View”. Enjoy the sights, you will not be sorry you took this small journey. Walk back out the yellow trail to the blue trail and continue your journey back down to the creek (this part is easier than your first part J).

We hope that you enjoyed this adventure and welcome any comments and/or suggestions on how to improve our hints.
