ETA Sept 2015:
Well, Audra f i n a l l y took her boys to find the One Eyed Owl, and sadly, it seems to be gone. Neither of us work at that job any more and I left under very unhappy circumstances, so I won't be replacing the box.

Thank you to everyone for finding this box and filling up the book. It makes my letterboxing heart happy that so many people have found it and enjoyed our inside joke!

For A. and L.*

The one-eyed owl is hiding in his burrow in North Cemetary.

He entered the cemetary from the south gate on Johnor Ave, right across from the little town where the silent stars go by. He flew north along this road and then saw a soldier standing guard with ammunition around him. The one-eyed owl hopped up the steps on his short little legs to see the soldier. There he read...

"On fame's eternal camping ground,
Their silent tents are spread,
And Glory guards with solemn round,
The bivouac of the dead."

As he stood there, our friend the owl, thinking about this verse, he looked to the left. Then he looked to the right, at the flagpole. Just beyond it he saw...

Owl Supper! A trilogy of 3, standing at attention around a giant boulder.

He flew that way, down the little hill, and as he reached it he saw...

A little burrow hidden at the base of a tree right behind the boulder.

He hopped over there, said hello to the Petersens (they don't get many visitors), and crawled into his little burrow hole for a rest. There you can find him and say hello yourself. And say hello to the Petersens while you are at it.

Please bring your own ink. Shades of brown are good, black is fine as well. Tuck him well back into his burrow and cover him carefully with his bark cover when done. Watch around you for this cemetary has dog walkers and sightseers all around. This cemetary abuts a nature preserve so when you are done here, you might like to visit there too.

*The Story of the One-Eyed Owl

I have this coworker who one day came in my office to train me on the fantastically interesting VMRs. Before we began, she admired the handmade owls I had on my desk for decoration. I gave her one to look at, and one of the eyes popped off.

I said, mock accusingly, "You broke it!" This had been a running joke all day when something she was trying to show me on the computer did not work.

She retorted, "Don't blame me for your one-eyed owl!"

For some reason I thought this was the funniest thing ever. I laughed so hard I really thought I might fall off my chair. When I finally got ahold of myself, we proceeded on with the training.

But as she was talking about the fabulous VMRs -- I was listening, I swear! -- I recalled her saying that. I still listened very attentively! But she paused in what she was saying, gave me a look, and said, "Are you thinking about the owl again!?!?" I was immediately helpless with laughter.

It took quite a while to get the training done. Maybe you had to be there. But I carved this stamp after that incident, and then I hid it nearby so she can go and find it.
