*confirmed still there on 8-10-2011. It has been found by 4 others.

In York Harbor, park along route 1A. Then walk down to where the sun is bright and the water is cool. Before reaching the sidewalk to sand, turn right along the Stage Neck Inn. Then walk down the street until you see a sign that says “Harborside Inn”. There will be a small field of grass. Go to the pier across the lawn and there you will find a pebbled path. Follow it all the way until you find a black-railed path. Now follow that until you find a barn. Make sure you stop at a gate that says OLD VARRELL WHARF. Then look for a dirt path covered by trees. Now follow that path until you see a rocky path. From there go until you see a wooden fence that sits on the path on your right. With your spine against the southern corner of the Fisherman’s Walk signpost, walk across the path to the river. Make sure you stop where the pebbles meet the rocks. Look down at your feet for a rock that sparkles in sunlight and has rusty colored splotches. It will be covering a tan striped rock. Under these rocks you will find what you are looking for.

Note that the walk from your car can be up to 15 minutes. Dog (follow local leach law) and child friendly. If you’re hungry for lobsters go on down to the lobster shop!

Continue the Fisherman’s Walk to cross route 103 and see the smallest suspension bridge.
