There's a pretty hefty fee to enter Stone Mt. Park but once inside, park in the west parking lot and take the historic walk up trail, marked in yellow. Keep an eye open for a granite marker with a red arrow on it, on either side of the trail. This is the Cherokee Trail and the blazes are all in white but the trail markers are in red.

At this point you have a decision to make. There is a clue in another of my letterboxes called "Hoops", you need the number of parking lot divider rocks. If you did not take this hike you can climb to the top of stone mountain and search for the USGS marker at the very top of the mountain. This is a brass circle 3-4 inches in diameter. It has two dates stamped on it 1873 and 19xx. You need the last two digits of this date. Then go back down the trail and take a left onto the red trail.

Or, if you went to Hoops and have that number take a right onto the trail and skip the top of the mountain. After following the trail and crossing a gravel road you will cross train tracks and soon after the trail intersects the orange trail, be sure to turn left here. After crossing a road you will come to a small lake next to a daycare center. After the lake you will cross a spillway and turn left down the hill. You will move away from water at this point but you want to keep an eye out for it on the left.

In a short time you will see a small brook emptying into another lake. At this point you want to look for the trail to take a slight right bend in front of a large pine tree with a white marker, just where the lake starts. From this tree count off a number of steps. Take the date from the marker above and add 2 to the number. Or use the number of parking lot rocks in Hoops and multiple that number by 5. Both of these will yield the same number of steps. Then turn right and walk 15 steps into the woods perpendicular to the trail. The letterbox is behind a tree covered by pieces of wood.
