Moose… LbNA # 58899 (ARCHIVED)
|Placed Date||Jul 7 2011|
|Location||Gould / Rustic, CO|
Trail difficulty: slightly moderate; it is a dirt trail with a moderate up hill portion, slippery and muddy when wet.
Walk distance: about 0.4 mile one way
This letterbox is located in an area noted for Moose viewing. After watching some Moose and their calves, I was inspired to return to my campsite and carve the stamp for this letterbox.
From State Highway 14 about half way between Gould and Rustic, turn north on Larimer County Road 103 (this is also known as the Laramie River Road). Drive about 5 miles or so to the Tunnel Campground. Continue past it for about ¼ mile to the West Branch Trailhead on the west side of the road. Park in the lot there.
Walk south on the trail along side the road, and then turn right just before the bridge heading into willows along the trail/dirt road on the canal/river levee. Turn left at the trail sign, crossing the ditch on the plank bridge. Head up the trail over log steps, and in a short distance look for a black-scarred, tall Aspen tree in the middle of the trail. From the Aspen walk about 38 steps up the trail to a snag on the left, 6 steps off the trail. From the snag go at about 70 degrees (from mag. north) for about 25 steps up to a small conifer (probably a fir) on a small knoll. The box is under the front side, under a flat rock, behind a larger rock and covered with some plant debris.
Please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag). Please make sure the lid is on tight. Please rehide the box well under the flat rock and cover with some plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
