Mohawk Trail State Forest

When our kids were small, every summer we'd take our annual excursion out to North Adams and Mt. Greylock. On each trip, we'd have a picnic with the Warrior. They'd run around the park like a bunch of wild "..." while I checked out the tributes to the Native Peoples of the area. As we were leaving, we'd take their pictures standing next to a real First American hero.
Indians and Cowboys were a big part of my growing up. I loved Westerns on TV like the Lone Ranger, Sky King, Rin-tin-tin, Cheyenne, Gun Smoke, and Have Gun Will Travel with Paladin. My favorite Western movie of all time is "Dances With Wolves". I love learning about the First Peoples' culture and civilizations.

From the Council Circle, walk up the path to "Hail to the Sunrise". Have your picture taken next to the Warrior, just as thousands of other tourists before you have done. Follow the arrow into the woods. Find 2 very large pieces of firewood. What you seek is in the bottom of the leaning, holey tree behind them. When you find it, you'll see what marks the spot where kids young and old have stood for their photos.
