Turn off highway 299 at Douglas City on Steiner Flat Road. Turn right at the post office and follow the signs to Douglas City Campground (about half a mile at the top of the hill) During the season you can drive DOWN (use low gear) but during the off season you will have to walk in ( about 200 yard down hill)

Park at the monument on the left as that is your starting point.

Face the Readings Bar Monument, read about the gold discovery in July of 1848. About 50' to the right along the road is a trail, head through the mining tailings about 200' to the second monument(wood).
From the rock at the base of the monument walk at 80 degrees magnetic 50' to the cluster of rocks, the box is hidden under the back side of the Largest rock. Part way up on the right.
