This is part one of a series which we hope we can finish!!!We plan on planting a box for every book in the Bible. Well if you don't know there are 66 books so we plan to have 11 parts of "The Sunday Driver" each part containing 6 books. All of the boxes are located right off the road and are great "drive by's" for a Sunday stroll through the woods!
There is one log book in the last box and you will need to bring ink.
Let's get started!!
Begin your Sunday drive by starting at the main entrance to Pachuag State Forest on RT. 49 in Voluntown. Next to the Smokey the Bear Sign.
Box #1 Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the bible. Where God creates the world. Once you have entered the forest continue to your right on the paved road until you see a pull off to your right. Go past this pull off or stop if you want to find Heritage box once you pass the pull off you will see three large rocks all in a row very close to the road. Look to your left and spot a two sister tree with a yellow marking. No this is not the tree where Eve ate the forbidden fruit!!!! But behind the tree under some sticks you will find Genesis. Be carefull it is a bit of a drop to get to the tree!
Box #2 Exodus
Exodus is the second book of the bible where God delievers His people, the Israelites, from slavery in Egypt. "Thus saith the Lord, Let my people go." Exodus 8:1 Continue on the paved road and at the first sign go to the right and follow the road past a picnic area onto a dirt road. Shortly after getting on the dirt road you will see a large moss covered tree stomp on the right surrounded by ferns behind this you will not find the Ten Commandments but you will find Exodus!
Box#3 Leviticus
Leviticus is the third book of the bible and God explains how to worship him. Continue on past a green gate on the right and continue straight until you see a sign for Lowden Brook picnic area keep driving until you see the brook and the tree that is trying to reach the other side. Inside the trunk of you will Leviticus
Box#4 Numbers
Numbers is the forth book of the bible where the faithless Israelites wander forty years in the wilderness of Sinai. " the Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression" Numbers 14:18 continue until you reach a four way intersection and take a left. Go pass frog hallow horse camp. Shortly after a green bar way you will see another large rooting stomp in the hole on the bottom covered by a rock you will not find the "promised land" of Canaan but you will find Numbers.
Box#5 Deuteronomy
Deuteronomy is the fifth book of the bible and is where Moses reminds the Israelites of the history and God's laws. Continue on and at the Lawarnce Road sign take a right until you see a smaller road on the right intersecting with trail 5 pull in one car length and to your right see a stone wall with a medium sized rock and under that you will find Deuteronomy.
Box#6 Joshua
Joshua is the 6th book of the bible and is where the Israelites capture and settle the promised land of Canaan. "Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 Continue until you see two stone walls come together to form a corner behind the corner under a rock you will Joshua's army marching but you will find the box "Joshua"
