Off Rt. 127 in Arrowsic, take Whitmore’s Landing to Doubling Point Road. The first driveway on the left leads down to a Coast Guard residence, formerly where the Range Lights keeper lived. You can park there and find your way to the first Range Light and continue on the boardwalk to the next one. Stop at the right hand rail next to the inland Range Light and look under the boardwalk and you have found our letterbox of the second salute twin! (We think an osprey might have dropped it there.) Turn around to go back and you’ll see how lining up the Range Lights sights the deep channel downriver from the dogleg at Doubling Point. Mariners coming upriver align the lights from the two towers to stay in the deep channel up the Kennebec.
