This letterbox was inspired by our recent trip to Hong Kong and the Symphony of Lights. Each night, hundreds of people gather on the waterfront in Kowloon to witness a synchronized light and laser show. 44 buildings and skyscrapers participate in the 10 minute show that is expertly choreographed to music and played through the outdoors speakers on the Avenue of the Stars. My initial intention was to plant this letterbox at the Observation Deck at the RDU airport (our starting point for our trip to Hong Kong) but for security reasons I thought it best to plant elsewhere. The RDU Observation Deck is a great place to watch planes take off and land. In addition there are picnic tables and a small park for kids as well. For more information, go to http://www.rdu.com/whileatairport/obpark.htm

Lake Crabtree County Park is located near the RDU Airport and was created in part by donated land from the airport authority. Follow the clue below to find the box.

Proceed into the park from the aviation parkway entrance. Make your first right into the parking lot marked "Open Play, Trail Access". Park and admire the beautiful lake in front of you (sailboat rentals are available). While facing the lake, walk to your right until you see a trail marked "Old Beech Nature Trail". Pick up a brochure and follow the path into the woods. If you are lucky, you might hear the ROAR of a plane up above. As you walk along the path, you will see numbers posted to the right of the trail which correspond to information provided in the brochure. Follow the path until you reach the #8. Just before you reach the #8, make a right and head into the woods. You will see a large twin-trunked tree not far into the woods. The box is behind the tree (at the base) and covered in pine needles and leaves. Please re-hide it well! Enjoy!!!
