Denville Historical Museum (the parking lot is shared with the Denville Public Library)
113 Diamond Spring Road in Denville

The Denville Shack was a restaurant known for its cheap food and publicity stunts. In the early 1900s it stood where the Burger King is now on Route 46. One stunt featured Professor Ray Richards who tried to break the world record for days spent buried alive. They buried him on May 14th, 1933 and he was fed down a shoot. According to on of the museum workers, people visiting the Denville Shack could call down to him and ask him questions. However, he only made it 22 out of the 42-day record. After he was “exhumed” he was brought down to the local barber shop to shave off his beard.
The Denville Shack was in business for nearly 50 years and now it’s only remains are inside the Denville Museum, a large odd looking chicken that once stood outside. Be sure to check it out! The Museum is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays or by appoinment.

To find the box start at the museum and locate the place from which this picture was taken. Be sure to sit down and smell the flowers. While you are there take some time to sit down (I suggest the bench on the right just inside the enterance) find 230 degrees on your compass. Make your way out of the garden and head in the direction you found until you reach the Woodland Cove. From the sign post go North 22 steps. There you will find a sundile. Make sure it faces 160 degrees and then head in the direction of 6 o'clock. Amongst the roots of a tree you will find what you are looking for. Be sure to cover the box back up with rocks and twigs.
