Howard the Cat is the newest member of the Historic Elmwood Cemetery staff. This box was planted on his 2nd birthday. Elmwood Cemetery, located at 824 S. Dudley St, is the most historic ground in this part of the world. The dramatic Entry Bridge, the Carpenter-Gothic Office Cottage– the entire 80-acre cemetery – are all on the National Register of Historic Places, and Elmwood is also an official Bird Sanctuary and Arboretum. Howard the Cat adopted Elmwood Cemetery in 2009 and lives around the cottage. He is a friendly little fellow. If you are interested, at the cemetery you can rent/buy (I can't remember which) a tape/cd (I can't remember which) that will take you on a tour of the cemetery and show you graves of individuals from Memphis' past. The cemetery closes daily at 4:30, so get there early.

Directions: Enter Elmwood Cemetery off Dudley Avenue, and once over the entry bridge, turn right and then right again to stay on Morgans Grand Tour Rd. Just before the intersection of Morgans Grand Tour Rd and Love Ave, you will see a tall AUSTIN marker on your right. Behind that is Helen Grave's Grave. Behind and to the left of that, close to the wood fence is a tree with 2 stumps next to it. The box is behind and at the base of one of the stumps, covered by a couple of stones.
