Puppy Love

This is the first letterbox the we have placed (28 Aug 2011).
We decided to place it here as it's where we take our family member, Lyla, for playtime and although she is no longer a puppy, we still love her so.

Things to bring depending on the season – bug spray, walking shoes, a friend, sense of fun!
And of course, bring your four legged friend to let him/her run free in this leash free park.

As you walk through the wooden fence, remember to collect a poopy bag from the sign to keep the park clean.

You may wish to sit on the bench under the tree at the entrance for a rest – before or after your adventure.

As you walk down the path that veers off to the left, look for birds, mix of trees and plants, and wildlife – and expect encounters with other dogs and people. Keep on the sandy path dotted with tuffs of native Southern Pines grass. Watch out for the roots that dot the path!

If you find balls in the woods as you walk, let your dog play with them, but remember to leave them in the park for others to enjoy. As you enter the large clearing, get ready for play time!

If you have time to explore the park – follow instructions A
If you don't have time to explore the park – follow instructions B

Instructions A:
After playing the in open clearing, head left up the hill through the forest. and veer right onto the path. Look for butterflies and signs of the different seasons along the way. As you head down the path, look out for the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker’s home (he is an endangered species in this area). Continue until you see the chain-link fence and then turn left and head downhill with the fence keeping to your right.

As you reach the bottom, you will encounter a clear running stream for more playtime and to cool off. This is social time for pets and owners in a shaded area by a refreshing stream. Stay as long as needed to meet new friends and play.

Once you are ready to find the letterbox, take the path to the right and continue until you reach the large open space going uphill that you were in before.

As you enter reach the top of the large clearing again, notice two wooden benches on your left donated in memory of Dr. Martin. You may want to sit and enjoy this restful spot. Look for the tallest tree behind the benches and walk through the mini forest. Behind the tree you can spot puppy love in the pine straw.

Instructions B:

As you enter the large clearing, notice two wooden benches across the way donated in memory of Dr. Martin. You may want to sit and enjoy this restful spot. Look for the tallest tree behind the benches and walk through the mini forest. Behind the tree you can spot puppy love in the pine straw.
