Giufridda Park is located near the Hunter Memorial Golf Course in Meriden. Take Bee Street to the Hunter Memorial Golf Course, drive past the course and Bee St. turns into Westfield Rd. There is currently no sign for Giuffrida Park, so when you see the One Way sign, turn left and proceed up the driveway to the parking lot.

This is a strenuous hike up the Mattabessett Trail to Chauncey Peak. Make sure you check the map on the kiosk before you proceed or check this link: http://www.scrcog.org/Trails_files/TrailMapGuiffridaPark.pdf

Bring water and a cell phone and wear appropriate shoes for this climb up the traprock trails.

From the parking lot you will see the dam to Crescent Lake. You will need to walk along the grassy part below the dam to cross over to the wooded trail on the opposite side of the dam.

Once across, proceed to the woods and follow the blue blazed Mattabessett Trail towards Chauncey Peak. The trail bends to the right at first and will wind left. As you are walking a little while, you will bass through 2 trees, one on either side of the trail. You will then walk by a V tree on the right. When you get to another V tree on your left, stop and look to the right. There are rocks to the righ. Go to the larger rock on top and move the smaller rock and you will find your first letterbox.

Go back to the trail and head straight up the rocky trail. Proceed with caution all the way to the top. While you are there at the top, enjoy the view. If you bare right at the top, there is a rocky vista. If it's a clear day, you can see New Haven, Sleeping Giant, Meriden, and Castle Craig, as well as a beautiful view of Hunter Golf Course.

Once you have enjoyed the view, follow the blue blazes to the left. You will dip down into the woods and back up again, before heading along the top of the peak.

When you come to a rocky overlook, with a great view of Crescent Lake on your left you will see a blue blaze on a large rock to the right. Continue down the trail, looking to the right for a tree with a pile of rocks in front of it. The rocks are covering up your next letterbox, which is hidden in a hole in the base of the tree.

Enjoy the rest of your hike on the blue trail. You will begin descending into the woods. Walk carefully, because you can lose your footing on the rocks. You will pass an abandoned old car....I have no idea how it got there! When you get to the bottom of the hill, you will cross a wooden bridge and bare left on the blue trail, enjoying the reservoir on your left. Continue walking, following the trail and it will eventually lead you to the parking lot.

Your entire hike will take approximately 2 hours. This is a great hike on a fall day!
