In 1996, a college freshman was preparing to leave for Christmas break. Unsure of what to do with his leftovers, he decided to leave it for someone else to find...in a dorm ceiling. Had he only known that there was a REAL activity with hiding things for others to find....

This box was planted during Homecoming of our 10th college reunion. The spot we chose is near and dear to our hearts - but several others seem to have found it as well. Please be cautious of hikers, bikers, and the occasional fox.

Start at the main trail entrance, located behind Admissions (Frost Hall). At the Y, go left, following signs to Gull Pond - the swimming/beach area. Just beyond the beach, you'll come to an intersection with a sharp left, a gradual left, or a trail that continues around the pond to the right. Follow the trail that is a gradual left. Take your first right over small wooden bridges, uphill slightly.

At the next Y, veer right. You'll quickly pass a circle of rocks on your left. Just beyond this, look carefully for a small trail on the right. It's not a major trail - so be sure to keep your eyes open! Continue on the small trail through the clearing. This is a great spot to sit and stamp in. If you look very carefully, you'll notice the trail continues through this clearing to the East. Go downhill to a 4-sister birch tree. Just past this is a large rock. Buried on the back side of the rock, under bark and sticks, is the Ferrin Surprise.

Please be careful to rehide well - this was an impromptu plant and we had only a red pill container with us!

By the way, the "surprise" was still there - petrified - at graduation in 2000. We have no idea if it remains to this day....
