Heading north on Narragansett Parkway, go to the grove that is salty, by George! Park in the lot and walk to where you salute our country’s freedom. Take a minute and read the sign celebrating this area’s history. From here, walk to the right along the driveway down to the wooden post (approx. 7 ft tall). When you reach the post, face the clearing on your right with the single tree in the center. The parking lot and water will be behind you. Facing the single tree with your heel touching the post, start walking 46 steps into the field, passing 3 boulders sticking out of the ground on your left. When you reach the tree, you have two options: to your left is a more direct route and to your right is a less direct route with a longer and more adventurous path.

IF YOU CHOOSE TO GO TO THE RIGHT, FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS: Head to the right of the tree towards the path marked by the semicircle of stones embedded in the ground. You will see a cluster of 7 sister trees to your right. Keep these trees on your right and walk down the trail into the woods. Walk over 2 rocks embedded along the trail. At the 2nd rock in the trail, start walking for 7 paces. Here you will see a path through the woods on your left. Take this path up the small incline to where it meets up with another trail. Turn right onto this path. The water should be to your left hand side.*

IF YOU CHOOSE TO GO TO THE LEFT, FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS: From the tree in the middle of the clearing, walk behind to the left (do not turn left, just slightly left). You will see 2 boulders that mark the entrance to the path. Take this path and up ahead you will see a large tree on the right side of the path. Keep walking. You will then see where the path intersects to the right * (THIS IS WHERE BOTH PATHS MEET UP) and another path down to the water to the left. Continue walking straight.

Just up ahead you will see a tree covered in vines on your left. While standing at the tree covered in vines you should see a large tree up ahead in the middle of a clearing. Walk towards this large tree. At the base of the large tree you will notice 2 stones and a tree stump. Stop and turn to your left facing the water. If you’re lucky, after a rainstorm, you may see a rainbow over Narragansett Bay. After taking in the view, look down and notice a large boulder (a great place to sit and check out the scenery). To get to the box, pass down the small path to the right of the boulder. Look around the backside at the base of the boulder. Under the rocks you will find the pot of gold “Somewhere over the Rainbow.”

Congratulations! You've found the letterbox! Please sign in and return this box where you found it, well-hidden from view.

Now, you can go back the way you came. But for an added bonus at low tide, follow the path down to the salt marsh. You can walk through the sea grass along the Narragansett Bay where the local residents burnt the Gaspee Schooner in 1772 (visit www.gaspee.org for more info). This is a short 5-7 minute walk. You will come out on the other side of the parking lot near the water. This park is a great location for a picnic. Or you can continue up Narragansett Parkway to Pawtuxet Village to the shops and restaurants. Enjoy!
