For the past 10 years or so, my cousins and I, along with our families, have all met at Wells State Park, for a enjoyable weekend of Family, Fun, Food, and Folly. We have always loved the park and what it has to offer us, and in a very convenient location. After our kids were led around the park one year on a scavenger hunt, and then searching for many letterboxes there ourselves, I decided to combine the two for other visitors to the park to enjoy.

There are four boxes hidden that each posses a piece to our family “crest”.
The final completed crest is just under 3 inches wide and 4 inches high.

You will need to find each of the four stamps in order. The complete clue for Box #1 will be listed below. In order to know where to start for Box #2, you will need to look inside Box #1 for the starting point. Then just follow the clues below. Inside of Box #2 you will find the starting point for Box #3, and so forth.

Good luck and we hope you enjoy your time at Wells State Park as much as we do.

BOX #1
The Mill Pond trail is a popular, accessible trail, that connects with the camp road at two points, one on top of the hill, and one down at the bottom. To find BOX #1, start at the lower of the two entrances and walk in about 50 yards, you will see a rock wall going away from the trail, into the woods on the right. Walk along the rock wall about 15 yards to where you’ll see 2 big, flat rocks, stacked on top of the wall with another one resting on them on the right side. Move the smaller rock in front of these to find BOX #1.

BOX #2
Start your search for BOX #2 from the point indicated in the first box.
Walk from this point along the trail for about 3 minutes. Stop when the trail starts to rise. You will see a grouping of rocks on the right. Turn right off the trail, and head up the bank. Walk between the two large trees and you will see a large rock in front of you. Go behind it and look inside the small “cave” formed by the rocks. It is inside that you will find box #2.

BOX #3
Start your search for BOX #3 from the starting point found in box 2.
Follow the rock wall to the right of the starting point. Please be polite and respectful if there are any campers in the area. After 25 yards or so, the wall crosses another wall. There is a big tree at the corner of the X. Look behind the tree, there is a “heart” shaped rock. Look under it for BOX #3.
Be careful not to reveal this location.

I AM SORRY TO SAY THAT WE CHECKED ON THE BOXES ON 9/1/12 AND BOX #4 HAS BEEN TAKEN. WE HOPE YOU WILL STILL ENJOY FINDING THE OTHER 3/4 OF THE CREST AS WE TRY TO FIGURE A WAY TO RECREATE THIS PORTION.

BOX #4
Begin looking for the final stamp at the point found inside box #3.
Once you reach the overlook, go to the far right of the clearing. There is a worn, but unmarked path leading into the woods, headed away from the overlook. Go 50-60 paces from when you entered the woods. You will see a tree with a split in it and a rock next to it that is split. Look behind the rock, move the little rocks to find your prize and complete your quest.
Please be sure to fully recover the box.
