Built in 1969,"Big Muskie" was once the World's Largest Earth Moving Machine and could move 39 million pounds of earth and rock every hour. What remains today is a monstrous metal bucket that sits on a rise, overlooking the beautiful valley that it once mined.
From I 77 in Caldwell use exit 25. Go West on SR 78 which is a winding and hilly two-lane road. Big Muskie is located 17 miles from I 77 on SR 78 in the Miners Memorial Park.
Once in the park and you’ve admired this huge bucket–find the grinding wheel. Then turn around facing downhill. Slightly downhill towards other displays is a tree with some bushes in a garden surrounded by flat rocks. Under the bush up against the tree is where you will find Li’l Green Ducky’s “Li’l Bucket” letterbox. Please reseal all baggies and discreetly replace letterbox. Enjoy your day.
