Directions to Camp Maria Pratt:
Camp is located at 1145 Brandy Hill Road in Torrington, Ct.
Take Rt. 4 west out of Torrington, then take a right onto University Drive. Follow this past the UCONN campus and take a left onto Brandy Hill Road. Continue on the narrow bumpy road to Camp Maria Pratt which is on your left. It’s best to park at the entrance near the camp sign.
**** Please DO NOT ENTER Camp****
Permission for the boxes was given to us by GSOFCT

Box 1: A Portrait of Juliette Low
Juliette Gordon Low started the first Girl Scout troop in the United States in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. She had returned home from England with the idea she saw there of Girl Guides, an organization to help others, support each other, and become leaders in the community. In the spring of 1912 Juliette met with Mrs. Baillie Ripley of Litchfield who obtained a certificate establishing one of the first troops in New England. So, Girl Scout began in Northwest Connecticut.
*** Please bring dark ink***
Clues:
From the camp sign, take 7 paces toward the unpaved part of Brandy Hill Road. Look left at the stone wall for the highest rock. It’s triangular shape bottom left corner points to a group of 4 rocks with smaller rocks in between. Check behind the two flat rocks that make a “T”.
When rehiding, please make sure you put the rocks back in the “T” shape!! Thanks!

Box 2: Make New Friends
Camp Maria Pratt opened in 1946 as a Girl Scout camp with Mrs. Bernice More as Camp Director. Many girls that belonged to Northwestern CT Girl Scouts spent a week or two at camp. Camp was a place to learn new skills, make crafts, swim, boat, and “Make New Friends”. Many of these new friendships lasted for years and into adulthood. Unfortunately Girl Scout summer camp is no longer, but Camp Maria Pratt is still used for many Girl Scout activities. We chose to plant outside the camp entrance so not to disturb any activities.
*** Black ink would be best***
Clues:
Continue 21 paces down the dirt road. Look to the left for a very large rotted tree that is broken in sections. The box is in the far left section, in the center of the hollow knot.

Box 3: Tent Camping
Camp Maria Pratt held a day camp across the road from resident camp. If you volunteered for day camp, your child attended for free. I dedicate this box to all the Mom’s and Dad’s that spent their “summer vacation” at Camp Maria Pratt’s Day Camp.
CLUES:
From the Camp Maria Pratt sign, cross the road, turn left and head back up Brandy Hill Road. Take 20 steps, stop, and recite “We-are-a little bit crazy!” Take 20 more steps, stop, and recite “We-are-a little bit crazy!” Take 20 more steps, stop, and recite “We-are-a little bit crazy!” Sorry, it's an old camp game while walking from the pond back to Day Camp!!! Take 20 more steps, stop, and recite “We-are-a little bit crazy!” Ok, look at that huge old pine tree with the missing limb. Part of it is still there, leaning against the shelf behind it. See you’re not so crazy!!! Hope you enjoyed the adventure and a little bit of information of Northwestern Ct Girl Scouts which is now part of Girl Scouts Of CT.
