This box was originally located in Stephen F. Austin State Park, but the trail has changed, making the original clues obsolete. I have elected to move the box to the site of TALE 10, which I feel is more appropriate.

Since the theme for the original event was “Texas Letterboxing Legacy”, I looked up the definition of the word “legacy” in Webster’s and this is what I found”

“Legacy: something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past “

To me, that is the perfect description of the gift left to us by a couple of guys named Silver Eagle and Baby Bear, although they are still around and still active and much younger than me. In the world of Texas letterboxing, they are legends in their own time. And, they happen to be brothers. The most enduring thing they have left for us, other than their more than 900 placed letterboxes, is the event that they call “TALE”, which stands for Texas Annual Letterboxing Event. Therefore, I have chosen to call them “The TALE Brothers”. For me, TALE is the most anticipated event of the year, a chance to visit with the Brothers again and to renew acquaintances with other people who perhaps have been hooked into letterboxing by a Silver Eagle or Baby Bear letterbox. The first box I ever found was Silver Eagle’s “Big Creek Bug”, which is located about 5 miles from my home. I still check on it occasionally, and, even though it hasn’t been found in a couple of years, it is still available. They both placed their first Texas boxes late in 2002. Silver Eagle's was "Zube Zephyr" and Baby Bear's was "Star Gazer". When they placed those boxes, only 9 other boxes existed in Texas. I think that without The TALE Brothers, letterboxing in Texas would be very different.

Box on, TALE Brothers!

Directions:
Buescher State Park near Smithville, Texas

To the box:
From the park, drive north on Park Road 1C past Ann Powell road to the parking area on the left just past the UT M. D. Anderson Center Road. Go back to the UTMDA road and find the trail to the left. Follow it to the "Tee" and turn left. Cross the road and continue on the trail. After a short hike, the trail will pass between two oaks, sort of an oak gate. You can reach out and touch both trees. From there, take 24 steps forward and look right off trail about 15 steps to an oak tree that has a smaller white-bark tree growing very close to it. The letterbox is between the two trees propped up by a lot of small rocks. Remove as many as you need to get the box. Replace the rocks as you found them, please.
