The Walktober 2011 Letterboxing Walk took place at the Hale Homestead on the same weekend there was a Revolutionary War encampment there. As our group of letterboxers walked the trails behind the Homestead, we were first stopped by 2 British soldiers on horseback who asked if we’d seen any Patriot soldiers, and checked to be sure we’d paid our taxes. Then the Patriots came into sight. The chase was on, followed by a mock battle.
To locate the marker (letterbox) of this encounter, park in the lot at Hale Homestead and follow the path at the end of the lot into the woods, keeping the stone wall and cornfield on your right. At the end of the cornfield, the wall turns right and so should you. Look on the left for a huge rock next to the trail with a big tree and a cluster of small trees growing right behind it. You will find Walking Weekend 11 at the base of the tree.
