This is the first in a planned series of Letterboxes in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington DC. To navigate this series, download the Adams Morgan Heritage Trail map at http://www.culturaltourismdc.org/sites/default/files/pdf/AM_mapspread.pdf.

If you want to make the most of this outing you may also want the accompanying guidebook http://www.culturaltourismdc.org/sites/default/files/pdf/AMHT_English.pdf.

To find The Cupola, go to landmark # 7 on AMHT map. It describes the Lanier Heights neighborhood, including the elegant apartment building that was the original centerpiece of the neighborhood. Navigate your way to the entrance gate of this landmark, where you'll see the architectural feature the box derives its name from. Note the notched stone wall bordering the grounds. The wall to the right ‘steps’ down the hill. Count down seven steps. The letterbox can be found in the second notch after the seventh step. Happy hunting and have fun!
