Location: neerG slliH Preserve. From Routes 16/302 in North Conway, take Artist Falls Road east past the railroad tracks. Take a right onto Thompson Road. In 0.4 miles (just before power lines) a small “Town of Conway/Pudding Pond Conservation Area” signed parking lot will be on the right alongside the road.

Trail map:
http://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/regions/northamerica/unitedstates/newhampshire/placesweprotect/green-hills-map-guide-for-web.pdf

Terrain: Moderately steep trail, mostly wooded. Nice views from the summits. Elevation gain ~1,300 feet.

Distance: Varies from 2.6 miles round trip if you aren’t interested in reaching any summits, 4.2 miles round trip if you go to top of Middle Mountain, 4.5 miles if you go to top of Peaked Mountain or 5.5 miles if you go to the top of both mountains. Use the map and watch trail junction signs if you decide to deviate from the following suggested route for a 5.5 mile hike.

This is a loop hike first summiting Middle Mountain, and then continuing along to summit Peaked Mountain. As we hiked along, we found a strange skinny fellow wandering around. He seemed like a lunatic, so we decided to box him up to keep the trails safe for other hikers. He went willingly into his cell, but apparently is now feeling a bit claustrophobic and wants to escape.
• From the parking area, start at the common trailhead for Middle Mountain, Peaked Mountain, and Pudding Pond Trails.
• Follow the trail which parallels power lines for 0.2 mile.
• At this point you will arrive at an information kiosk (#1). Pudding Trail goes right while Middle and Peaked Mountain Trails turn to the left.
• Turn left and follow the trail for 0.5 mile which is both Middle Mountain Trail and Peaked Mountain Trail.
• At the next junction, Peaked Mountain Trail (also Black Cap Connector at this point) goes to the left while Middle Mountain Trail goes straight.
• Go straight and follow Middle Mountain Trail for 0.6 mile where there will be another junction.
• Here Middle Mountain Connector goes left and Middle Mountain Trail goes straight.
• This is where we captured the loony guy. We put him in a padded cell located 25 steps along the connector trail, behind a fallen birch log on the right and near a stump. You can pay him a visit if you’d like, but before you leave please be sure he is securely sealed & concealed so he stays dry and doesn’t get accidently found & released.
• If you want to go to the Middle Mountain summit, go back to the intersection and keep going the direction you had been going and continue to follow Middle Mountain Trail for another 0.8 mile to reach the summit. [Your other options are to simply retrace your steps back to the parking area, or skip this summit, but continue on to the Peaked Mountain summit following the rest of these instructions.]
• From the summit of Middle Mountain, retrace your steps for 0.8 mile back to the prior junction. Option is to continue retracing your steps to your car, OR follow additional directions for making a longer loop hike.
• Turn right onto Middle Mountain Connector and follow it for 0.3 mile where it meets up with Peaked Mountain Trail which goes both straight and right.
• Turn right and follow the path for 0.2 mile to reach the summit of Peaked Mountain.
• From Peaked's summit, retrace your steps for 0.2 mile back to the prior junction.
• Turn right to descend on Peaked Mountain Trail.
• After 0.4 mile you will reach a junction with Black Cap Connector. Turn left to keep following Peaked Mountain Trail.
• After 0.3 mile your will be at another junction and at a different information kiosk (#2). Turn left to stay on what is now both Peaked Mountain Trail and Black Cap Connector. (Turning right is only Black Cap Connector and going straight would bring you to the end of Thompson Road.)
• Continue along for 0.5 mile until returning to the junction with Middle Mountain Trail.
• Turn right to follow the combined Peaked Mountain and Middle Mountain Trail for 0.5 mile back to kiosk #1.
• Turn right again to walk the final 0.2 mile back to the parking area.

We live quite a distance from here, so would really enjoy an email update to let us know how this crazy guy is coping. Thanks!
