DISTANCE: This walk is approximately 1.5 miles on a dirt road.
DIRECTIONS: You can Google Map Millington Road or follow the direction below. Either will take you to Gate 22.
Millington Road is off Route 202 in New Salem. (From the intersection of RT 9 and RT 202 in Belchertown, drive 14.7 miles on RT 202 North then turn right onto Shutesbury Road. From the intersection of RT 2 West and RT 202 South in Orange, drive 7.6 miles on RT 202 South then turn left onto Shutesbury Road.)
After turning onto Shutesbury road, you will quickly come to a fork in the road, go right at the fork in the road. Drive approximately 0.5 miles and you will come to a sign that reads, "Prescotte Street", go left. Drive about 0.2 miles and you will come to Gate 22 of Quabbin Reservior. Park here.
CLUES: Go around the gate and start walking. Hop Brook will come in and out of view during the walk. When you come to a sign on a tree that read 22-3, turn right onto the path. Soon the path will open up into a grassy area. To your right is Hop Brook and the remanents of a grist mill. If you look left down the brook you will see where Hop Brook empties into the Quabbin. From the lone tree in the grassy area, look right/center for a short path that goes to a beach area with a beautiful view of the Quabbin.
After taking in the sights, go to the lone tree in the grassy area and stand with your right side next to the tree looking up the path that goes back to your car. Take 13 steps toward the path then turn right. Count three stones down from the tree. Look behind a flat rock infront of the stone to find the Hop.
