Terrain: Easy – some inclines, mostly gravel or paved, ok for kids
Clues: Easy – no compass necessary
Time: About 20-30 minutes round trip from the parking lot
This is the second hand-carved letterbox inspired by our cousin – the first is “I Love Horses”, which can also be found in Discovery Park.
Find your way to the Government Way & 36th Street entrance to Discovery Park. Travel through the park on Discovery Park Blvd., continuing straight to the “Land of Lincoln”. When you get to Dorothy’s home state, turn left into the parking lot.
Find the bulletin board at the far end of the lot and enter the trail. Pass the restrooms, and at the intersection follow the road up the hill to the left.
Do you see the fire hydrant? Good - take the next trail on the right. Find the moss covered fallen tree. From the roots, walk about 35 paces around the curve in the trail, just until it starts heading up hill. (Remember, a “pace” is two steps!)
Your prize awaits you on the North (downhill) side of the six-trunk tree, hidden behind some bark.
Please be careful, since this is so very close to the trail – rehide carefully!!
