Location: Crows are crafty, so unscrabble these words to determine the location
BETORR KOCO MAILMORE ROBEMARTU
Terrain: Primarily a hilly dirt trail through woods.
Time/Distance: 1.5-2 hours, approximately 3-3.5 miles.
Park in the small parking area near the JB trailhead or in the larger parking area at end of the road. Both paved trails will bring you to a cabin.
You may see some crows in the area, checking to see if there are any tasty remains near the picnic table. Crows are considered to be among the world's most intelligent animals and many people like them because they are curious and cheeky. One of their fans is “ggghiker”, an IL letterboxer. One of her feathered friends, (we’re not sure if it was Blue or Doodlebug), was especially naughty this Christmas. That sassy crow spotted a beloved figure making his rounds and decided to play a little trick.
To see what he was up to, follow Yellow shortly after the cabin. Ignore all side paths and follow the crow’s flight along yellow, eventually admiring the river on your left. When yellow turns private and meets power, forsake the yellow and chase the crow south. As you and the bird ascend, you’ll notice a side trail on the right, near a handy spot for the rascal to perch. As you take a rest, glance ahead & to the left to see a broken mother surrounded by numerous children. It was this spot that the crafty crow decided to stop to hide his treasure. To find out what it was, check the backside base of the grouping. Please be sure you create a well concealed nest when you return the crow.
To make your way back, follow the crow as he continues swooping along the side trail as he heads back to Hoo Haven:
Left at a “Y”
Left at a “T”
Another left at a “T”
Right at a “Y”
Left at a “T”
Right at a “T” with an old signboard nearby
Right at a “Y”
Either right or left at the next “Y”
Either left or right at the next “Y”
Take another rest if you like when you reach a crossroads, but then cross the small bridge
Right at a “Y”
Left at a 4-way
Yellow takes you back to familiar places.
