Find the Park and Ride on S. Rolling Road (Rt. 166). The trail head is just West of the Park and Ride. There is ample parking on the side of the road close to the trail head. Stay to the left when getting on the trail – you will know you are on the right trail when you pass the trail sign.

Soapstone Trail (Purple blazes)
Drainage pipe
Drainage pipe
Double drainage pipe – Stop – turn around and walk 30 steps to a tree on the left with a purple blaze.
Take a bearing of 70* and walk to large Oak up on the hill
Take another bearing of 140* and walk behind a Beech with a “crackly” base for Box 1 - Barcelona 1992.

Water crossing with large rock on the other side jutting out into left side of trail and a small waterfall on right.
Stop at Beech with a purple blaze and take a bearing of 120*. Walk uphill to a large Beech with a baby Beech behind for Box 2 - Atlanta 1996.

Right on Bull Run trail (Orange blazes) – enjoy the climb!!

Almost at the very top of the steep climb the trail takes a sharp S turn around a fallen tree cut in 3 places. Look Left to large root ball. Follow fallen tree on the downhill side to another root ball. Follow that tree to where it is resting on a Beech tree. SPOR at base of Beech for Box 3 - Sydney 2000.

Return to trail at the S turn. Stay straight at all intersections. The first intersection is with the orange trail on the left. You will cross over a gravel road with a red gate to the right. Stay straight.

Trail will start heading downhill with a slight lefthand turn. At the mid-sized Beech on the left with carvings and initials STOP. Look to the right side of the trail through the forest for 3 large trees in a row each covered in ivy. Behind the first tree is Box 4 - Athens 2004.

Return to trail.

Soon you will see a house across the water on the right (at least in December I did!)
Funny Y tree hanging over trail then two fallen trees kissing at their bases.
STOP at a LARGE fallen tree cut on trail and take a bearing of 140* to a tree with moss at its base.
Take another bearing of 240* to a large tree with a SPOR behind it for the BONUS BOX aptly named Singletrack.

Return to trail. Soon the trail will split, take the trail to the Right and go down the hill. STOP when you see where Tina + Brian and D5 on the right. Face this tree. Do a 180. From the middle of the trail count 25 steps. Beijing 2008 is hidden behind the tree to your Right.

Go back up the hill and turn Right. Turn Right again at intersection and head downhill. Gravity is your friend!! When you can see/hear the water be on the lookout for a large Beech tree on the left close to trail with carvings of BB 78 TM 80 TJ 99. At this tree STOP and take a bearing of 320*. Look behind a large Poplar tree for Box 6 - Olympic Rings.

SHORTCUT! You don’t have to go all the way back to the trail head to get on Soapstone. Look left and there is a fallen tree that crosses the water.
