Locate the Hoffman Evergreen Preserve on Route 201 in Stonington, CT. This is a nature preserve where no hunting is allowed. If you do hear some shots it's from the shooting range across the road a ways. There are trail signs all over on this trail. These three boxes are in a loop. You can choose to do a long loop or a short loop. We hid these with three smallish children and it took us 2 hours, but we also stopped for snacks, building a teepee, etc. If you are simply walking along you should have it done in an hour. You can also bring your dog. Here you go:

Box one "Big Beech" Look at the trail map when you enter and follow the yellow trail to BIG BEECH. When you find the big beech with the names "Liza + Ian" you have come to the right place. Look around the back of the tree under a few rocks. Re-hide well and be discreet.

Box two "Hug A Tree" Follow the trail signs to Bennett Yard. When you find Bennett Yard (an old cemetery), cross the cemetery to the opening in the stone wall. On the left side in the "doorway" is the box. Please re-hide well and be discreet.

Box three "Save Our Planet" Return the way you came and take a left at the first intersection and go to sign post 7. From there you can take either the red or the blue trail to sign post 2, or continue exploring. At sign post 2 look in the corner of the wall behind the sign. Please re-hide well and be discreet.

There are many fun things to do on this trail, so have fun and plan some extra time to enjoy nature! For more fun look up the clues to "Happy New Year 2012."
