This letterbox was placed as a requirement for the Girl Scouts of CT Letterbox patch requirements for Brownie and Daisy Girl Scouts. “It’s a Small World After All”, the title points out that we should all take a moment to look around and realize the world is bigger than each of us and our individual busy lives.

Start at the letterbox treasure location on the trail for “A Spark of Sunshine” located at Barnes Nature Center in Bristol, CT (letterbox trail directions for “A Spark of Sunshine” noted below). Go to the yellow Nature Preserve sign and put your back against the tree with the final location for the “A Spark of Sunshine” letterbox to your left. Start the “It’s a Small World After All” letterbox by going right up the hill following the yellow black dot trail. At the trail fork, take a right following the yellow black dot trail down the hill. Turn right at the bottom of the hill onto the Cardiac Bypass trail. Hop over three logs crossing the trail. Take a left off the yellow black dot trail at the tree marked with yellow arrows and continue to the brook. Take a left at the brook until you reach the red black dot trail. Take a left and go over the bridge marked with the red black dot trail marker. Continue thru a Mt. Laurel forest and past the fallen tree in the slingshots. At a fork in the trail, take the red black dot trail on the left. Continue to the red black dot trail marker before the bridge. At this marker, go south to a rainbow tree. At the rainbow tree, look for a five fingered tree. Locate the Girl Scout (G.S.) birdhouse at the tree and look for the letterbox from Girl Scout Troop 60317. At the time of this letterbox the Troop has both Brownie and Daisy Girl Scouts indicated by the markings on the stamper. Follow red black dot trail north or south to get back to the parking lot.

Length: about ¾ mi. Mostly level except for one moderate climb.
This box is in celebration of the birth of Sparky Butterfly’s beautiful
daughter.

From parking lot, follow path to the left of the building, past the rock on the
right with a plaque and into the woods on the blue with black dot trail. Go
right on red with black, cross two bridges and go left on yellow – we are
seeking sunshine. At the intersection where yellow goes two ways, continue
ahead and climb the steps up the hill. We might get a glimpse of sunshine up
there. At the top, see a fallen lodged in a 3-sister tree. Search the base of
the stump at the end of the fallen for what you seek. Retrace your steps or
follow the red loop to the left when yellow meets up with red again after the
bridge. Both paths will lead you to the parking lot.
