This little lullaby leaguer has ventured away from the comforts of Munchkinland. After bidding Glenda farewell, she meandered eastward for some time, enjoying the sounds of the water and wildlife all around her. Hildred lost track of time and found herself far from home, and it was almost dark! Up ahead was a sign that read: Bridge 13 19 mi. - Oh no, it was too far to turn back now! Instead, she ran through the scary tunnel and decided it was best to settle down into a safe place and wait for help to arrive. Surely, Glenda or maybe the wizard would come to her rescue. Just ahead up on the right, Hildred spied the biggest tree she'd ever seen. The trunk was so big around! She nestled down near this giant in a little concrete "bunker" and waited for someone to come for her.

In their own words, the story behind this letterbox:
"On September 19, 1906, in Dassel, Minnesota, a baby girl was born to John and Cecelia Olson. They named her Hildred. Hildred and her older sister, Olga, were midgets. When Hildred was older, she joined a traveling troupe of midget performers. From this experience, she auditioned for a part in an upcoming film, the 1939 production of "The Wizard of Oz." She was offered and accepted the part of a member of the Lullaby League. Although she was 32 at the time of filming, she was one of the smallest Munchkinettes. Hildred is clearly visible in the movie. The star of the movie, Judy Garland, was from Minnesota, too. Hildred and Judy became friends due to this common bond. Hildred stayed in show business throughout her life. She never married and died in 1958 at the age of 52.
Why did we choose to dedicate this box to Hildred C. Olson? Hildred is Steve's (Mr. of SZSRocks) great-aunt and she is our favorite Ozite! Steve carved this image of his great-aunt, Hildred, in the costume she wore in the 1939 movie, "The Wizard of Oz". We hope you enjoy meeting Hildred!"
