12 Months in a Year – February

This is a series of boxes observing each month of the year. TrailMix and Yankeesfan will do our best to get a box planted each month in a timely fashion. However, if we have another winter like 2010-2011, it will be quite a challenge. See you on the trails!

Directions:
Located on the Shelton Rec Path, Lane Street, which is off of Huntington Street in Shelton. There is a small parking area on Lane Street for this part of the path.

Clues:
Box #1 Sweet Caroline

My daughter’s birthday is in February. This year she will be turning 18. I have no wise words for her on this momentous occasion, only to say I LOVE YOU!!! I am very proud of you, and be happy. The years go by much too quickly. Enter path and cross wooden bridge. As you get to the end of the open meadow on your left, the path slightly winds to the left, then to the right, then to the left again. At this point, there should be a tree on your right with a yellow blaze. Stop and look to your left to see the small concrete marker by some stones. BOX #1 is under some stones which are under the tree directly behind the concrete marker. There is no logbook with this box. Yes, there is ink.

Box #2 February

So far, this winter has not been like the winter of 2010-2011. It was cold when I planted this box, but at least I could see the ground! And I did pull a muscle in my back while planting. But I attribute that to age, not the difficulty of finding these boxes. After finding Box #1, with your back to Box #1, walk straight back into the woods, until you come to a 2-sister tree which becomes a 3-sister tree. Stop and turn to your left. See the tree with the hollowed out bottom. BOX #2 is there, under some stones. Logbook and ink are with this box.
