My 500th Letterbox
Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 0.5 mi RT)
Status: alive

Long before Mister Roger's Neighborhood, Sesame Street or dozens of other children's programs, Houston had its own TV star for kids. In 1954 Bunny Orsak dressed up as a black cat and became Kitirik, the good luck charm for channel 13 (KTRK). Her show was broadcast live and featured a carousel reserved for kids having birthdays who also were allowed to stick their hand into a hollow "tree" on the set & grab a handful of pennies. I have fond memories of being on the show for my 5th birthday and having to give back some of the pennies I zealously grabbed. Kitirik stayed on the air until 1971 and this box dedicated to her can be found at Memorial Park not too far from the KTRK station.

Directions:
From Loop 610 West, take Woodway east inside the loop to Memorial Park. At North Picnic Lane, go right and continue as the road curves left. Pull into the parking lot on your right near a trail head sign behind the baseball fields.

Clues:
Walk on the purple trail all the way to where it bends right at the barricade by the bayou. Go left on the blue trail a few steps then right at Y jct to white barricade forbidding bikes. Go on trail behind barricade 33 steps to bluff over bayou, then left and down 35 steps to large pine tree on right side of trail. Letterbox is at back base under sticks and leaves. Please replace as described.
