The Fort Belknap to Fort Worth Military Road box is located at the original location of this frontier fort. Here is the history from the Historical Marker at the fort:
Marker Title: Military Road (Ft. Belknap-Ft. Worth)
Address: SH 251, S of Newcastle
City: Newcastle
Year Marker Erected: 1936
Marker Location: Fort Belknap; 3 mi S. of Newcastle on SH 251.
Marker Text: Past this point extended in 1851 a military road connecting Fort Belknap and Fort Worth. Over it passed troops, travelers, and supplies for the frontier posts.
Directions:
From Newcastle, go south on Hwy 380, left on FM61 to park on the right in 3 miles. Enter through arched gate and park in first lot.
The the Microbox:
Walk to the left to the Museuum building (go in if you want and look around). Now go across the street from Museum to the 2 big ship cannons. Go right and over to the back of the last building. At back, see the 1st window inset. To the left is a small tree. Box is under a rock at right base of that small tree.
