We planted this letterbox in honor of our 8 year old son, Coen, who loves letter boxing and The Big Island, and didn't get to make the trip with us this time. It also so happens that his nickname is Monkey Butt....

Located off of the road to the Fairmont Orchid Hotel at Mauna Lani is the Holoholokai Beach Park and Puako Petroglyph Park. Our letterbox is hidden off the Malama Trail to the Petroglyph Field. About 7 minutes down the lava rock trail, just before the Puako Petroglyph District sign, you will find a lava tube opening on your right hand side. Monkey your way to the top to check out the lava tube (cave) entrance from above. Once you've checked out the cave, it is time to find Monkey Butt's hiding place. 10ft West (left) of the entrance below a large tree branch and hidden in the base of the large lava rock protrusion you will find the resting place of our little Monkey Butt..

Happy hunting!

Can't wait to make the return trip with Monkey Butt so he can find his own letterbox...

Let us know if you find this box, we love to get feedback!!!
