A few miles north of the community of Orick lies Lost Man Creek (named after a lost timber cruiser) and the like named Lost Man Creek Trail which runs alongside the creek. To find the Lost Man Letterbox turn in at the well posted road and follow one mile to the trailhead and picnic area. Park.

Walk onto the trail and pass the three picnic tables. Soon after on right note a large double-trunked redwood tree. Walk about 31 steps to another good sized redwood on your right. Walk over to this tree, maybe five steps. Look next to the base of its trunk on the NW side under a rock and some duff for the Lost Man Creek Letterbox. Please rehide carefully so as not to be found accidentally.

(Minor letterboxing anecdote: Since this is a drive-by letterbox it only took 10 minutes to drive in, hide the box and start the drive out. On the way out however a huge mountain hemlock fell across the road blocking our way out. There was no cell phone service so we hiked out and after awhile found a nice man (a retired coyote trapper!) who called 911 for us. After being passed to numerous agencies and people in faraway places we were finally put in touch with the local CA State Park folks who came with chain saws. And soon enough we were out.)

And thanks for coming!
