Skywatcher’s Delight

If you like to look at the stars on a clear night, then you must have noticed the spectacular display in the western sky. During the month of March, the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter has been taking place, with March 15 being the exact date of conjunction. They can be seen in the western sky just after sunset and are visible for nearly four hours. They will eventually go their separate ways, and will come together again in May 2013. However, at that time, they will only be visible for little more than an hour after sunset. Some say the star the wise men saw over the place where Christ was born was the meeting of Jupiter and Venus in the constellation Leo the Lion near the brightest star in Leo, Regulus.

Directions:

Located on the Shelton Rec Path, at the Shelton Dog Park, corner of Nell’s Rock Rd. and Rte. 108.

Clues:

Head up the trail from the dog park parking lot. This is the blue blazed trail, but becomes white. Stay on white until you come to the power lines. Do not continue straight, as this becomes the yellow trail. Take a left on the rocky dirt trail that heads up the hill under the power lines. Pass the tower on your left, and when you come to the jumble of stones on your left, stop. The box is under the left-hand corner of the largest stone. Please replace the rocks covering the box so it will not be seen from the trail.Ink is provided in box.Turn around and retrace your steps back, or continue on white, which loops around to yellow, back to white, then blue.
