After the great windstorm has knocked Owl's House from its tree, Piglet had been kind and generous, donating his house to his friend. And although Piglet truly enjoyed sharing his best friend Pooh's House, Piglet thought about having his own small house, for his very small self. One day, he decided to go for a walk to see what he could find.
Piglet set out, his scarf wrapped about his small neck, skipping along the paths of the Hundred Acre Wood. He felt adventurous, particularly after his adventures in Piglet's Big Movie. Beginning at the Trailhead, Piglet smiled and set off down this trail.
He started on the trail, enjoying the breeze and the warming sunshine of this perfect fall day. Soon, he came to a junction in the trail. He decided not to go the way of the truck, rather he followed the sassafras leaf.
He took a deep breath, swinging his little arms. As he skipped, he passed between two great oaks, on either side of the trail. Further on he noticed a pine tree which seemed to point the right way ahead.
He continued on, crossing where the water flowed beneath him. The leaves glowed all their magical fall colors, the ground was soft and spongy beneath his small feet. Piglet felt very big.
Soon enough he passed between a great, thick oak on his left, and two close together on his right. Not far past this point, the smell of pines filled his little nostrils. He walked through a little pine forest, the needles making a wonderful carpet beneath his feet.
Further along the trail he came to a washout on his right, which looked down into a gully. Piglet decided to call it Hundred Acre Gully in honor of the place where all the most important friends in his life lived. He gazed down into the gully, noticing the remains of a broken concrete dam. "It must be very old," Piglet thought to himself as he continued down the trail.
As he walked, Piglet gazed at the large trees around him. Many were large enough to easily hold a house for Owl and all of his other friends, even the sometimes overly bouncy Tigger.
The path he was on split into two, and Piglet chose to leave the wood chips in favor of a smaller dirt trail. And there, Piglet saw the location where he knew he would find a small place for himself. He hopped up on a concrete cylinder with a metal sign post projecting 160°. It pointed toward a great spot!
At the edge of Hundred Acre Gully, 185° from the metal post, he saw a forked cottonwood tree. At the base of this tree, in Piglet's Hollow, you'll find Piglet all snug, safe and warm. Please make sure to return him to his hollow and close his bark doors around him.
Directions! If you're coming north on 1-75, exit and University Drive (exit number 79). Follow University Drive east until you reach Squirrel Road (fairly foolproof since continuing straight would enter Oakland University's campus). Turn South on Squirrel Road, staying in the far right lane, which is turn-only into the Auburn Hills Civic Center. Follow the lane west until it curves south, go past the police department. You'll see tennic courts on your right and a sign in front of you saying Civic Center Park. The entrance to the trail is a large, square bolted post engraved with a sassafras leaf. There's also a large playground very near it.
The trails are beautiful, wonderfully soft beneath the feet and open to dogs (please bring a waste container with you). The trails close at dusk or 5pm, whichever is later.
