Le Vampyre Series – The Devoted Deputy

HISTORY:

Virgil Diddle was a young man who dreamed of becoming one of the famous Texas Rangers. When he was 17 he volunteered with the local Sherriff’s department. Another young deputy, Guy Brumbalow, took him under his wing and taught him everything he needed to know to become a deputy. On his 20th birthday he proudly pinned on his tin star and began his career as a crime fighter.

It wasn’t long before he was on the trail of a group of cattle rustlers who plagued the Chisholm Trail. This group was well known for their underhanded tactics and for paying off local authorities, but Guy and Virgil weren’t to be bought! It wasn’t long before the cattle rustlers put a price out on the both of the young men’s lives. Undaunted they continued fighting crime and trying to bring the bad guys to justice. One hot evening in June, Guy was riding to his parent’s farm when he was attacked and shot dead. This was a heavy blow to young Virgil but he persisted in seeking justice for his friend’s death and to stop the local thievery. Even against insurmountable odds, Virgil slowly began rounding up each of the rustlers.

It was just two months later, while riding out to investigate a tip given to him by a fellow deputy, that Virgil was ambushed by the remaining cattle rustlers. He fought valiantly, but was shot 3 times in the back. As he laid slowly bleeding into the limestone dust, he said his prayers and asked forgiveness of his friend Guy for not being able to bring the remaining rustlers to justice. As he lay there, he suddenly felt a cold breeze come over him. Surely, this was the cold grip of death, but instead he opened his eyes and saw a beautiful young lady standing over him. He had never seen skin so pale or eyes quite that shade of amber before, he was mesmerized. And as he lay helpless she slowly knelt beside him and whispered in his ear, “I am here to save you and you will be able to seek justice against those who have done this evil to you” and he was then born into immortality!

He is remembered for his unwavering valor and his dedication to justice to those he left behind, but to those whom he visited after his rebirth he is known as the Dedicated Deputy! Justice is final and it is best served cold.
