Time: 20 to 25 minutes, one way. This trail is an entrance into the Pusch Ridge Wilderness Area which is a Desert Bighorn Sheep management area and dogs are not allowed.
From the intersection of Highway 77 and East Orange Grove Rd. go east to the intersection with Skyline Dr. Turn right (east) and stay on Skyline Dr. Turn left on Alvernon Way, about .7 miles from where Skyline Dr. continues east and the road turns southeast and becomes East Sunrise Dr. Drive to almost the end of Alvernon Way and park in the trailhead parking lot on the left (~7133 No. Alvernon Way). The Finger Mountain Trail begins where the road turns left just north of the lot.
Hike up the trail watching for two large boulders on the right of the trail that are leaning against each other and are resting on a larger flat rock. A short distance ahead there will be very large, flattish rock on the right. Stop 30 steps ahead where the trail turns to the right. Face left towards the slanting rock face and take 8 steps to a flat rock. Just above eye level at 326° is an 8" by 10" rock blocking a small cave that holds the box. Be careful retrieving the box and remember other things like to hide in caves too. Please replace the rock if you need to move it. Thanks.
