The Spring Creek Greenway got its start many years ago, when Senator Jon Lindsay, then the Harris County Judge, bought several creekside parcels in the early 1980s, including 150 acres that became Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center. Many years later, Harris County Commissioner Jerry Eversole realized it would be fairly easy to connect Jesse Jones Park with other creekside parcels. His idea was to create a contiguous, forested corridor linking preserves along the creek. Since the creek forms the boundary between Harris and Montgomery County, Eversole asked Montgomery County's Precinct 3 Commissioner Ed Chance to work with him on the project and in 2004 the partnership began. Eventually up to 33 linear miles of forest along the creek will be preserved and accessible for hikers, bikers, paddlers and horseback riders. One of the gateway parks along the creek is Montgomery County Preserve, where this box is located. It is a great place to see birds, butterflies and moths, including the beautiful Luna Moth.
Directions:
From I45 go west on Sawdust Rd 0.4 mi to Budde Road, turn south and it will turn into Pruitt Road. Follow Pruitt Road as it bends right to the Montgomery County Preserve entrance on the left. Go left and park in lot on right after passing the office.
Clues:
Walk across the road to the Spring Creek Greenway Trail sign and go under it on the dirt trail. Follow it as it goes through a fence into the Preserve, bends right, then crosses a gravel road (part of the road you came in on and another way into the Preserve). Continue on dirt loop trail to where it bends left with another trail branching off to the right. Go right on other trail to its end at a fence by a football field. Go back on trail 55 steps then right off trail 7 steps to pine tree. Continue 7 more steps to oak tree where minibox is at back base under sticks and leaves. Please replace as described.
