Bring your own ink. This is a letterbox, not a geocache. Please do not remove the stamps and please do not leave any trinkets.

This is a memorial to an enthusiast; my letterboxing friend Hi Desert--Xeric=of the desert, Vertex=high place. She wouldn't have been able to do the hike but she'd had her husband drive her up.

Driving directions: From the I-25, I-40 intersection in Albuquerque, take I-40 East to the Tijeras exit. Bear right and then get in the middle lane at the stop light. Go up 337 to the Ranger Station. This is a great spot to use the facilities, view the exhibits and visit with the ranger about the area. Otherwise keep going on 337 past Tunnel Canyon, past Otero Canyon, to the left turn bay at Juan Tomas. Turn left on Juan Tomas (242) and drive a little less than a mile to (252). It's marked with a Cedro Group Campground sign. Turn left onto 252 and follow it just past the Group Campground to the trailhead marker on the right. If you're in the mood for a hike of less than a mile, leave the car here. The hardest part is finding the trail because everywhere seems to be the trail. Just keep going up towards the towers. If your knees don't let you hike, keep driving up to the top and the fire observatory tower. The roads a little rough and I'd probably prefer not going up in a low-centered vehicle, but there's lots of scrapped rocks showing that low slung sedans have make the climb. Park at the top.

Clues: 2,r,10,4/ w,e,9,t/ leg/ 10,2/ 9,10,u,t,h/ e,i,2,2,e,l/ U,11,12,e,r/ t,h,i,r,12/ l,4,r,g,e/ 9,t,10,11,e/ 9,w.

Hint: Numbers aren't numbers but months, or at least parts of months.

Please be stealthy, Please sit down and look like you're taking in the view so the observer in the fire tower or her dog don't get too suspicious. Please move away to stamp in. Stick the box back as far back under the rock as you can get and cover with rocks.
Thanks for playing.
